Father Bishoy Kamel Ministry for Cancer Patients
Care, dignity, and hope for families facing cancer. Merciful Ministry brings together priests, doctors, and servants to support people facing cancer in Egypt—offering practical help, compassionate care, and prayer when families need it most.
Merciful Ministry was formed to stand beside cancer patients and their families in Egypt, especially when the cost of treatment puts proper care out of reach.
Rooted in Christian service, the ministry combines spiritual pastoral support with practical help—meeting people with compassion, respect, and prayer.
Helping patients and families access care when financial hardship makes treatment difficult.
Standing alongside people through pastoral care, encouragement, and attention to family needs.
Bringing people together in prayer and service, with hope grounded in the love of Christ.
In a 2020 account of the ministry’s beginnings, Hegumen Fr. Louka Sidarous described how his experience with pancreatic cancer led him to think about serving other cancer patients. He saw two needs: spiritual pastoral care and help easing the burdens of treatment costs.
That desire grew into a ministry bringing clergy, medical professionals, and servants together for patients and families in Egypt.
Even in illness and suffering, Hegumen Fr. Louka Sidarous kept the needs of others close to his heart. Having experienced the pain of illness himself, he wanted to ease the burdens of fellow patients and their families.
That compassion gave shape to the Father Bishoy Kamel Ministry for Cancer Patients. Its purpose was practical and personal: help cover medical expenses so families would not carry a financial burden on top of illness. Fr. Louka encouraged the fathers to seek out those most in need, especially families enduring hardship quietly.
He asked that assistance be offered discreetly—where possible, by paying treatment expenses directly and leaving the family with a reminder of Christ’s love. By God’s grace, the ministry has continued to grow and reach people in many places. We give thanks for all who sustain this work, and pray that God will continue to move hearts to serve.
Every act of care can help a family feel less alone. Keep the ministry in your prayers, share its work, or reach out to learn how you can take part.
Remember patients and their loved ones in your prayers and ask for strength, healing, and comfort.
Help more people learn about the ministry and the families it seeks to serve.
